Spring Cleaning – New Energy, New Growth, New Space

It’s springtime in Boulder again. The flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing, and the birds and squirrels are chasing each other through the trees. New life is everywhere, and that growth permeates the human world too. The energy of spring inspires us to clear out the old and bring in the new.

One way that we express the springtime desire for new growth is through the ritual of spring cleaning. Organizing, decluttering, removing, replacing, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, and dusting… The frenzy of all that activity feels good in the springtime, and it can bring new joy into our lives.

Cleaning a space of the old dust and clutter breathes new life into it. Just as the leaves of last fall get composted and turned into new plants in the spring, we can convert our old, cluttered spaces into bright, fresh spaces that help us feel free.

Get your Spring Clean On

Are you inspired to start your spring cleaning? Wouldn’t it be nice to tidy up your house, garage, or vehicle? As the days get warmer, it’s a good time to clear out the old and make room for the new. Here are a few of Be Free’s suggestions to make the most of your spring cleaning.

Throw on some music.

Good music can help you get into the rhythm of cleaning. Plug in your headphones or blast the stereo, and before you know it you’ll have the whole house clean and tidy.

Involve the whole family.

You’ll get the job done quicker with a team. It’s also a good chance to teach your kids the value of responsibility, and the pride of a job well-done.

Follow the right order of operations.

At Be Free, we do this all the time, and we suggest that you follow these steps:

Declutter first. Pull out everything old that you don’t need anymore first, then donate, recycle, or trash it. If you’re really looking to make the room look brand new, pull everything out before you start cleaning.Clean next. Get into the nooks and crannies, under the rug, and inside the cabinets. It’s easier to deep-clean a space once you’ve removed all the clutter.Organize last. Once you have a clean, decluttered space, you can rearrange and reorganize the room, putting things where they make sense.

Have fun with it.

Make the process of spring cleaning into a game. How many items can you donate or get rid of? How efficient can you make your new space? Challenge yourself to make the space the best it can be, and let yourself enjoy the process.

Give yourself a reward.

When the day is done, reward yourself for your hard work. Go out for a nice dinner. Take the kids out for ice cream, or head to the creek for a little rest and relaxation. You deserve it!
